I began working at the Arts University in 2005, and since then I have taught contextual studies across a range of courses. I currently teach on the Make-Up for Media and Performance degree.
I currently teach on BA (Hons) Make-Up for Media and Performance and have previously taught contextual studies in Digital Media, Costume, Film, Commercial Photography, and our Foundation degree.
My specialism is in film studies, and my PhD examined the marketing of children's film adaptations in relation to authorship and cultural constructions of childhood. My current research interests include looking at representations of mental health in reality TV, and examining representations of childhood trauma in fictional film.
I am interested in receiving applications from students who would like to explore contemporary film or television productions in relation to any aspect of the protected characteristics including gender, sexuality, race, age, disability; also class and physical characteristics. How these topics engage with wider academic disciplines is of particular interest.
Since 2023 I have worked as a producer on a number of short film and music video projects. One such project was the Christmas music video for the local children's hospice Julia's House. I am currently also working on developing film workshops that will engage with issues such as class, gender, and race, to children under the age of 18 in schools and university/college widening participation projects.
