Carri Angel is a senior lecturer on BA (Hons) Commercial Photography, and MA Photography (Online).
Carri’s creative career spans three decades. In the early '90s, she founded the renowned alternative clothing label The Dark Angel Design Co. As well as designing and producing the company’s extensive range of theatrical costuming, she also exclusively photographs and markets the brand. The unique design of the clothing is visually rich and lends itself perfectly to her highly creative style of photography.
For the past 20 years, photography has been the main aspect of Carri’s creative practice and her lavish, fantasy imagery is regularly featured in publications worldwide.
In 2004, Carri left the UK to promote her work overseas. She has since established offices in Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand and California. She returned to the UK in 2013 and achieved a Master's degree in photography. Her visual narrative, A Stitch in Time, explored the detrimental effects of disposable fashion on manufacturing communities in the north of England. She is a longstanding advocate of ethical fashion and is committed to promoting sustainability and diversity in the industry.
My research work is situated at the intersection of several key study areas, including subculture, fashion, photography and sociology. It builds on existing research into the lives of ageing sub-culturalists, with a specific focus on women over 40.
I have completed the first two years of a PhD; this is currently on hold due to teaching and work commitments.
