I always wanted to be a filmmaker, and I have always loved learning and sharing knowledge.
My initial qualifications and teaching experience were in Criminology at the University of Melbourne Australia. In 2005 I began retraining as a film producer and in 2007 I relocated to the UK to develop my skills and career.
I have worked in independent film in the UK since 2009 and in 2013 was accepted as a full member of the Production Guild. I have amassed a significant body of experience in film production that I am happy to share with young filmmakers.
I began teaching at AUB on the Film Production course in 2015. As a specialist arts university, I have found it to be an institution that encourages students and staff to create a unique community of practice.
Current teaching (Arts University Bournemouth/Bournemouth Film School):
National Youth Film Academy
I am a producer-in-residence at the National Youth Film Academy. My role involves teaching core skills to young filmmakers and training/mentoring young producers making their first films
Previous teaching:
Independent film production
As an indie producer myself, I am interested in the creative possibilities and innovations that can come out of the independent sector. For instance, in the recent pandemic crisis, many of the conventions developed by independent films working on location were adopted and adapted by larger-scale productions, such as limiting the number of people on set at any one time. I am also committed to encouraging diversity and inclusivity in the film industry, building resilience and adaptability.
VR/Serious Gaming/Virtual Production
I am interested in the use of technology in creative arts, and in teaching for the creative arts. I am producing a number of multi-platform/transmedia projects (screen/mobile/Virtual Reality) and am in early development on a learning game built in Unreal, Drive to Arrive.
Digital Education
I am currently undertaking research towards an MSc in Digital Education at Edinburgh University. My focus is on serious gaming and digital environments.
