Gaby is a practicing make-up artist and wig maker with experience in a range of industries. Her love and dedication in creating handmade bespoke wigs and postiche, suit her calm, patient manner. She has spent years exploring and finetuning her skills in traditional and contemporary techniques, through numerous clients’ unique requirements. Her experience as a make-up artist has provided freelance work within fashion photography, music video, short film and bridal work.
After studying a BA (Hons) degree in Make-up, she explored a diverse range of skills within the industry before focussing on her specialism. Gaby joined the Arts University Bournemouth in 2016 as a Technician Demonstrator. After a couple of years in the role and taking on a fantastic opportunity to teach a short course in make-up for film, television and theatre, Gaby discovered a passion for teaching. Through a successful appointment as an Early Career Academic in 2019, Gaby has developed her journey into teaching within Higher Education through further studies and qualifications, resulting in her progression to Lecturer in 2022.
In the last year, Gaby completed a Master's in Visual Communication. Her interests lie in power balances, societal gender roles and feminism, with her major project exploring the links between these themes, and nature, through further theoretical concepts of Ecofeminism, Animism and Object Oriented Ontology. Developing her practice, the projects aim was to combine Gaby's love of innovative hair work, and create her own canvas of the body through fragmented life-size sculpture, leading to new contemporary perspectives and aesthetics.
Since completing her MA, Gaby's practice has centred on liaising with industry professionals to continue to bring up-to-date skills and techniques to the course, with a focus on diverse and inclusive awareness and practices within the hair, make-up and wig industry.
