Before working in education, I spent several years working as a Design Assistant, developing prototypes and pattern making, both freelance and employed. I also gained valuable experience working in the building trade.
Bespoke furniture and joinery work became a speciality with an interest in Architectural restoration of wooded structures and small boat restoration.
I have extensive experience of workshop design, management and machine operations, in addition to health and safety management and supervisory responsibilities.
My role at AUB is based in the Workshop, managing a small team of technicians who facilitate students using the workshop resource, from a large selection of AUB courses, at all levels. The Workshop is a central resource providing a teaching and learning facility to support students in the achievement of their individual educational goals.
As a team we also give advice and instruction, aiming to provide a welcome and supportive environment in which students of all abilities can receive appropriate training, assistance and supervision in order to complete their course work.
Maintaining up to date, essential equipment and introducing new processes, machinery and materials, to ensure currency of facilities, and provide a varied and diverse range of maker disciplines.
