Penelope Norman BA, MA, PGCE FE. Researcher and Award Leader MA Digital Fashion Innovation: bringing 15 years industry experience into fashion curriculums to create a network of innovative Fashion graduates for new careers in digital sustainable and innovative fashion design and production.
As 80% of environmental impact can be addressed at the design stage my goal is to support designers to have a positive impact through the implementation of digital design and production methods and to educate graduates to support and drive these changes within the industry.
Working with international Universities creating shared sustainable design curriculum and consulting with industry on the integration of digital fashion practice, VR showrooms, and sustainable and inclusive methodologies into production cycles.
Currently supporting knowledge exchange and digital design/production development with industry through the Arts University Bournemouth’s innovation studio with a specific focus on inclusive and connected digital sizing systems and strategies to improve user experience and reduce over sampling and dead stock.
Most recently, I've completed a Master's in Digital Fashion Innovation, looking at 'Virtual Try On', the integration of body scanning into fit processes and looking at the reality of bespoke graded avatars.
I continue to develop my practice through research and investigating new technologies that support innovation, inclusivity and sustainability - the most recent of this being Gravity Sketch Virtual Reality, Twin Motion and Lectra expert.
One of the key roles I play on the BA is linking the curriculum with industry. In recent years, this has led to a long-term partnership with a luxury British heritage brand and Vivienne Westwood accepting an honorary fellowship at AUB. As a course, we continue to seek out partnerships and live projects to enhance the student experience.
