Richard Smith is Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Animation Production course. Originally trained as a graphic designer, Richard moved into the newly emerging field of computer animation and successfully undertook a degree in Computer Visualisation and Animation at Bournemouth University.
After graduating, he then worked as a freelance computer animator, gaining a full time staff position at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop in London as a computer animator. Richard worked at the Creature Shop for 10 years, before returning to freelance work when the Henson family closed the London Creature Shop. As a freelance computer animator he has worked at a number of the leading production facilities in London, including Framestore/CFC, Cinesite, and has also had the opportunity to travel around the world as a freelance animator, where he worked at a production facility in New Zealand.
Whilst working in the industry, Richard has also worked as a character/concept artist, compositor, matte painter, modeller, and a rigger on various projects including feature film and commercials work. One of Richard's primary roles within the course is to introduce students to Computer Animation.
