I am costume maker who specialises in historical fashion, having made for English Heritage, Salisbury Museum, and a range of period theatre productions such as Hard Times, Treasure Island, and An Inspector Calls. Extant garments form a large part of my work process, studying original items of clothing for directions in cut, construction, and design aesthetic. As a result, I have taken a keen interest in the conservation and collection of archival garments, and now as an educator, I am passing on this passion to my students.
After completing my Master’s at the Arts University Bournemouth, my making direction swayed towards the world of tailoring, investigating how non-standard bodies have been dressed throughout history, and how within the industry, they are made for today. I experimented with recreating historical costume for larger figures, from the iconic Dior ‘Corelle’ silhouette to the 18th century decorated dandy.
I help teach on BA (Hons) Costume mostly, with support towards the BA (Hons) Performance Design and Film Costume and MA Historical Costume courses.
